Brota
Buenos Aires, 2022 · Brota artist residency
Developed through meditation on impermanence, grief, and beauty, Brota explores the relationship between physical monuments, digital spaces, and natural materials. The work draws inspiration from Cementerio de la Recoleta, where elaborate tombs bear witness to individual lives and departures.
During COVID, many people experienced loss in isolation and held farewell ceremonies through their phones. Using the cellphone’s familiar shape, I bring glass screens into dialogue with cob, ink, roots, and other earthy materials. Patterns recalling trees, flowing water, and stone evoke decomposition and decay, asking how digital spaces can hold grief and support communal healing.
